man this shit is my biggest pet peeve. You know what, most women don’t act that way either. So knock it off. If the character happens to be meek and unsure and shy, it just means they’re a meek, unsure, shy character. It does not mean they’re like a girl. It doesn’t not make their relationship like a heterosexual one. It does not mean that it’s just some bogus gay relationship and the mangaka is a cop-out and doesn’t know what the fuck she’s doing. Jesus christ ahhhh. Just because you happen to not like meek, shy, small characters, don’t give some dumbshit bogus reason like “oh well it’s because they’re unrealistic to actual gay men and they act like woman”. Because you know what? There is no such thing as ‘an actual gay man’. All gay men are different, just like straight men. stfu. A man can be small and behave in a meek, submissive manner without suddenly transforming himself into a woman whether he is gay or straight or otherwise inclined.
Not to mention this also gets to me because it kind of insinuates that everyone who does like such a character type is just some loser who doesn’t understand that it’s ~*~not how gay men are supposed to act~*~ these characters aren’t realistic to gay men and they aren’t realistic to women—because characters in BL are not realistic, period. They’re not supposed to be.
Fucking stop unnecessary gender policing ugh. There are few things that piss me off more and this god damn genre is so full of it.
THIS! ヽ(*゚O゚)ノ
THANK YOU.
I am a gay guy who enjoys all sorts of BL and characters and this kind of policing frustrates me a ton. It makes me happy to see that there are people who understand that submissive boy does not equal girl.
I wasn’t going to post this here, because the follower count of this blog has risen beyond my expectations and intimates me when posting ~unpopular opinions~, but I think this really needs to be said and the message to get out there. I tried to write something brief to a similar confession here but it’s not well worded. Basically, this type of thinking is insulting to both genders, which I think most people aren’t even aware of.
ps. yaoi is not realistic
Tonari ni Kimi no Nukumori wo - Ootsuki Miu
Spoiler: all of Ootsuki Miu’s characters are actually cats and scans have been translated from cat → English
I was browsing through my wip folder and found this.. one of the things that I will forever leave unfinished sigh.
I’m sorry I don’t have much to post here these days.
